Morphology and Properties of Block Polymers with Cyclic-linear Architectures

Morphology and Properties of Block Polymers with Cyclic-linear Architectures [KAUST Project]
An ever-increasing array of block polymer chain architectures have been synthesized and their novel morphologies and properties explored for AB diblock copolymers, ABC triblock terpolymers and beyond. One type of architecture that has hardly been explored to date are the cyclic or cyclic-linear chains. While organic synthesis has advanced enabling precise compositions and stereochemistry, achieving acyclic motif for a variety of chain architectures is much more challenging. Our goal is to be able to formulate molecular design rules for new polymer architectures so as to enable new types of self assembled microdomain structures that will, in turn, lead to improved material properties.
